Starbucks

After shutting down most of Starbuck's US shops for three hours to retrain baristas and espresso basics, they are welcoming back customers today with a new promise that is posted in the stores, saying, "Your drink should be perfect, every time. If not, let us know and we'll make it right." Nearly 7,100 company-operated Starbucks stores across the US, all except the licensed shops in supermarkets, airports, malls, hotels, closed at 5:30 pm local time Tuesday for a teach-in that was part espresso tutorial, part pep rally. Instead of dumping shots straight into paper cups they'll serve to customers, Starbucks baristas are now back to pouring espresso into shot glasses first. The customers will then be able to see if it's a quality shot of espresso or not.

Google vs Microsoft

Google's co-founder Sergey Brin said that Microsoft's takeover bid for Yahoo is an unnverving manuever that threatens innovation on the internet. Brin also says that the merger could violate antitrust laws and harm Internet users. Google's chief legal officer David Drummond argued in a company blog saying that a merger between companies that control the Internet's two most heavily trafficked web portals could lead to abuses. Those could be limiting users' ability to easily access competing products from e-mail to instant messaging to Web-based services, such as those Google offers. Microsoft argued that it's commited to protecting innovation on the internet and that sealing the deal would allow Google to become even more dominant on the internet than it already is.
